The Dr Bongani Mtshali Foundation exists to turn care into practical action — standing with learners, young people, families and communities through dignity, opportunity and partnerships that help people move forward.

Who we are

Community is not a place we visit.
It is where our work begins.

The Dr Bongani Mtshali Foundation is a people-centred platform for practical community support. We believe the strongest interventions begin by listening closely, understanding real needs and working alongside communities rather than acting from a distance.

Our focus is not on charity for its own sake. It is on dignity, opportunity and responsible partnership — helping create conditions in which learners can participate, young people can grow in confidence, families can access support and communities can build stronger pathways forward.

People first. Community always.
Our strategic purpose

A clear purpose.
A human way of working.

The foundation's current work is centred on education, youth development and community support. These statements formalise that direction without changing the people-first character of the organisation.

Vision

Communities where dignity is protected and opportunity is within reach.

We want people to feel seen, supported and able to move forward.

Our vision is for stronger communities in which learners, young people and families can access meaningful support, develop confidence and participate in opportunities that improve their future.

Mission

Turn compassion, partnerships and resources into practical action.

Listen first. Respond responsibly. Build with community.

Our mission is to work with communities and partners to support education, youth development and practical community needs in ways that protect dignity and encourage long-term opportunity.

Positioning

A foundation that works with community, not simply for community.

Local voices shape the work. Partnerships strengthen the response.

We position the foundation as a credible bridge between community needs and people, organisations and supporters who want to contribute in a practical, respectful and purposeful way.

How we work

Impact begins with
the right approach.

The current website describes a foundation rooted in dignity, community voice, opportunity and partnership. We have translated those principles into a clearer operating approach for partners, volunteers and supporters.

01 · ListenUnderstand the need from the people closest to it before deciding what support should look like.
02 · PartnerBring together community voices, supporters, organisations and practical resources around a shared need.
03 · ActFocus on interventions that are practical, respectful and connected to a clear purpose.
04 · LearnReview what worked, what changed and how future support can be more useful and sustainable.

2027 School Shoes
& Uniform Drive

The Dr Bongani Mtshali Foundation's School Shoes & Uniform Drive is officially open for 2027. The campaign is focused on supporting learners with essential school clothing so that they can return to the classroom with dignity, confidence and a stronger sense of belonging.

We invite individuals, businesses, strategic partners and community stakeholders to support the 2027 drive through school shoes, uniforms, financial contributions, sponsorships and other relevant resources.

Every pair of school shoes and every uniform is more than clothing — it is a message to a learner that their education, dignity and future matter.
Where we focus

Focused work.
Human impact.

Our current areas of focus are education, youth development and practical community support — three connected ways of helping people build stronger pathways forward.

Strategic partnership

Stronger leadership.
Stronger communities.

The Dr Bongani Mtshali Foundation is proud to work in partnership with Under 45 CEOs of South Africa, a platform focused on connecting, empowering, elevating and recognising the next generation of business leaders.

This partnership brings together community impact and executive leadership — creating opportunities for business leaders to support meaningful initiatives, contribute skills and resources, mentor young people and help strengthen the bridge between enterprise and community development.

Together, we believe leadership carries a responsibility beyond the boardroom: to open doors, create opportunity and leave communities stronger than we found them.
